Mr. Fitzgerald was born on September 15, 1956 in Waynesboro, and was a son of the late Kenneth Cleveland “K.C.” and Rosemarie (Bradley) Fitzgerald. He was a longtime member of Wayside Baptist Church. Mr. Fitzgerald worked for Wilson Trucking for 35 years. He most recently worked in maintenance for Valley Oil in Staunton. Robert loved riding his motorcycle, camping, and his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
On August 22, 1975 he married the former Sheila Elaine Thacker who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Fitzgerald is survived by a son, Johnny Lee Fitzgerald and wife Kristi of Waynesboro; daughter in law, Angie Fitzgerald of Crimora; brothers, Steve Fitzgerald and wife Elizabeth, Charles Fitzgerald and wife Rachelle, both of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Wesley Fitzgerald, Kaleb Fitzgerald, Breonnah Fitzgerald, Freedom Fitzgerald, Liberty Fitzgerald; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Babi Dawg, Matt Moo, and Toby.
Mr. Fitzgerald was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Wesley Fitzgerald Jr.; and two brothers, Kenneth C. Fitzgerald, Jr., and Johnny Fitzgerald.

A double graveside service with his father will be held on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at 11 AM at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Wingfield officiating. Those in attendance are asked to follow current COVID-19 protocols with mask wearing and social distancing practiced.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday February 9, 2021 from 1 until 5 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with current COVID-19 protocols in place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayside Baptist Church, 45 Turk Mountain Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980
