Ruth Esh, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family and many friends on December 14, 2014.
Ruth was born on December 3, 1922 in Mechanicsburg PA daughter of the late Levi M Weaver and his first wife Sophia Binkley Weaver.
Ruth dedicated her life to being an active pastor's wife and mothering her 5 children, all of whom she loved unconditionally and prayed for daily. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Melvin Esh. Her children are all surviving--Myrliss Demastus of Cheltenham PA, James Esh of Waynesboro, Crystal Hatter & her husband Dean of Lyndhurst, Janet Campbell of Lyndhurst, Kay Manchester & her husband Jim of Waynesboro.
She cherished her 9 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren, always making sure there were home baked treats and fun games in her home for their many visits. She also actively participated in family reunions with her brothers & sisters & in-laws, many cousins, nieces, nephews, who will remember her for her fierce yet fun competitive spirit, quick wit & loving kindness.
Ruth was a volunteer during WWII serving poor rural children in the Gulfport Mississippi area where she met her husband of 48 years. Together they then served churches in Blountstown FL, Mount Union PA, Sarasota FL, Stuarts Draft VA, Knoxville TN, finally retiring here in Augusta County.
Ruth was a long time member of Mt View Mennonite Church where she served faithfully as Sunday School and Bible School teacher, girls club leader, Cradle Roll founder, sewing circle member, prayer partner, and was known for encouraging the younger generation with kind words & support for their interests & talents.
She spent her later years as a resident of Stuarts Draft Retirement Community where she was a spark of joy -- putting together puzzles, competing in Wii bowling, bingo, croquet, ping pong and attending social & religious functions.
Her life was a model of humble servanthood, joy, good laughter, love, wisdom and forgiveness. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, noble in character. All who have ever known her call her blessed.
It is a privilege to honor her life. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Mt View Mennonite Church with Pastor Earl Monroe & Rodney Nice officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home.
