Stephen Gordon Campbell

Stephen Gordon Campbell, 55, of Verona, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born on December 15, 1960 at Fort Gordon, Georgia to William E. “Bill” Campbell and Joan Anita Dedrick Campbell.

Steve was a 1979 graduate of Stuarts Draft High School and served 8 years in the United States Navy as a medic, EMT, and pharmacist. He spent the majority of his adulthood in Houston, Texas, returning to his home in Virginia in 2013.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bill; his son, Adrian Andrade Campbell; and grandmothers Ruby Fitzgerald Dedrick and Viola Gilmer Campbell.

In addition to his mother, Steve is also survived by his three children, Ashley Marie Smithson, Stephen Bryan Campbell and wife Jessica, and Christopher Ryan Campbell, all of Houston, Texas; his brothers, Mark Campbell and wife, Tammy of Chesapeake, and Cary Campbell of Stuarts Draft; and his sister, Kay Campbell Gum and husband, Paul of Weyers Cave. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Toby Campbell, Emily Gum Rankin, Amanda Gum, Sara Gum and Taylor Via; his aunts and uncles, Charles and Carol Campbell, Iris Peterson, Virgil Dedrick Jr. and Karen Kennedy; along with many cousins.

A private funeral will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend a great deal of gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the Intensive Care Unit at Augusta Health Care for their diligence and care of Steve and to Chaplain Joe McGugan for his guidance and support during Steve’s time of illness.
