Steven Jeffery Layne

Steven Jeffery Layne, 55, peacefully completed his journey on earth on Saturday, September 24, 2011. He was born on September 2, 1956, a son of Curtis Hoover Layne Sr. and Bobbie Jacqueline Rexrode Layne. Steve was a graduate of Fort Defiance High School and was employed by Invista. His father preceded him in death in 2007.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Theresa Wright Johnson Layne. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Daniel Paul Layne and his wife, Jennifer, of Chesapeake and Matthew Steven Layne and his wife, Tasha, of Fort Defiance. Surviving siblings include Diana McPhatter, Donna Grove, Curtis H. Layne Jr., and Roxice Crickenberger. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Samuel W. Johnson; mother in law, Jane Hawpe Law; sisters-in- law, Tracey Markowich, Emma Beth Gutzler, and Mary Kate Jordan; as well as a brother-in-law, Todd Johnson. Family and friends will be received at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, and other times at the residence. At Steve's request, his body was cremated and a private service of remembrance will be held.
