
Born September 23, 1931 in Augusta County, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Virginia (Hagee) Manley. On November 4, 1961 she married Phillip Edward Painter. The two shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.
Prior to retirement, Virginia worked for over 30 years at Ray’s Shop and Save Grocery Store in Staunton as a cashier and later as an accountant. She was a member of Mt. Joy Presbyterian Church, Raphine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby L. Manley and Charles S. Manley, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Edward Painter; daughter, Carolyn C. Cox and husband, James W. Cox, Jr. of Staunton; son, Bruce A. Craun and wife, Danna J. Craun of Fishersville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Cox, Leslie Adkins, James W. Cox III, Tiffany Kisor, Stacey Warr, and Jamie Craun; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Following cremation, there will be a private family graveside service held at a later date.
