He was a founding member of the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Department and served as a Deacon at Hebron Baptist Church for many years. William enjoyed raising black angus cows and spending time with his dogs. He shared a special bond with his dog, Delilah. He especially enjoyed talking to people, whether he knew them or not and always had a story to share.
Bill married Nancy Lee Wood Jackson in the Rodes United Methodist Church parsonage on November 8, 1063. Bill and Nancy made a life together in Afton and went on to have three daughters.
Survivors include his spouse, Nancy; daughters, Stacey Johnson (Todd), Amy Jackson, and Virginia Underwood (Lowell); seven grandchildren, Whitney, Alexandria, Olivia, Kristyn, John, Garrett, Ivy and a great grandson, Coltrane.
