
William Tate James, 97, of Waynesboro, departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Waynesboro Manor. He was born on May 22, 1917 in Watauga County, North Carolina, a son of the late John Roby James and Elsie Belle Mason. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vergie “Peggy” James; his daughter, Rebecca Kay James; two brothers, Clarence A. James and John B. James; two sisters, Mary Frances Rhodes and Flora J. Dungan. Mr. James was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. James attended Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Stuarts Draft. He formerly co-owned Skyline Gift Shop for many years with his wife, and served as pastor of Bethel Tabernacle Church in Fishersville for approximately 13 years.
He is survived by three special nephews, Charles “Chuck” Botkin of Harrisonburg, John B. James of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and R.C. James of Lenoir, North Carolina; three special nieces, Jackie Robinson and Billie Jean Daniel both of Staunton, and Jo Ann Rhodes of Beckley, West Virginia, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Rev. Charles Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 6: 00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
