David J. Cumberledge

He was born July 9, 1942 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Larney and Eliza Mundel Cumberledge.

He was a graduate of Waynesburg College. During his college years he worked for Waynesburg Milling Co., Spragg’s Wool House, and the college library.

Mr. Cumberledge was a retired Chartered Life Underwriter affiliated with the J.A. Goodwin Agency in Waynesburg. He had also worked for several years with Panel Products of Waynesburg.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg. He was a past president of the Waynesburg Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Mr. Cumberledge was active as a fund-raiser for both the First Baptist Church and Rotary International. He had served on the Board of Trustees of Greene County Memorial Hospital and the Community Foundation of Greene County. He was a member of Waynesburg Lodge No. 153 F.A.M., and was a scouting volunteer.

Mr. Cumberledge enjoyed cycling and golfing with his family and friends. He was an avid gardener.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne Crouse Cumberledge whom he married June 5, 1965; two sons, Bryan Cumberledge (Elaine) of Waynesburg and Brad Cumberledge (Gina Barrett) of Morgantown, WV; four grandchildren, Brian Tennant (Jessica), Brandon Cumberledge, Hannah Cumberledge, and Megan Barrett; four great-grandchildren, Ross, Blake, Reed, and Ty; one brother Simon Cumberledge of Waynesburg; and three sisters, Sara Taylor (Paul) of Chambersburg, Mary Hendershot (Terry) of Fairview, WV, and H. Jane Fiebing (Paul) of Colorado Springs, CO.

Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church 303 West High St., Waynesburg where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2014 with Rev. Dr. Edward Peirce and Rev. Dr. Stewart Johnson officiating, followed by interment in Oakmont Cemetery.
