

Donald E. (Duck) Patterson, 80, of Waynesburg, PA passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 in his home. Born January 6, 1935 he was the son of the late W. Earl Patterson and Clara Marie Smalley. Mr. Patterson was raised in part by his grandparents, Clark and Metta Smalley, and his stepmother Meryl Jennings Patterson. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1954 to 1958 as an airplane mechanic. He is a 1963 graduate of Waynesburg College. On January 12, 1963 he married Carol Lethian Small.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children Clark A. Patterson, Lauren P. McCollum (Sam), Suzanne Patterson-Huffman (Mike Malausky) and six grandchildren; Abbe Huffman, Brittany McCollum, Drew Huffman, Meredith Patterson, Bethany McCollum and Braxton McCollum. He is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lint Patterson.
Mr. Patterson owned and operated the Town House restaurant from 1968 to 1973 and started his real estate career in 1973 and remained the broker of Patterson Realty until 2012 where he helped to develop commercial and residential development, including Waynesburg’s Colonial Plan in 1976.
He was active in the local community and served in many capacities including a little league coach, member for the Greene County Extension Board, member of Lions Club (stage show and charity work), long time member and president (1976) of the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, including reviving the Rain Day festival and planning the Greene County Bicentennial celebration. He was a life time member of the local BPO Elks 757 and Exalted Ruler (1973). He was a member and officer of Greene County Sheep and Wool Growers, President of Greene County Country Club, member and officer of the Yellow Jacket Boosters Club, buyer and supporter of Greene County 4-H clubs.
Mr. Patterson raised champion Belgian horses on Greene Meade Farms west of Waynesburg. He participated for several years in the Waynesburg Christmas parade with his draft horse hitch and wagon. His success as a draft horse breeder and showman brought notice to Waynesburg with an outstanding record throughout the eastern and mid-west United States.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 W. High St., Waynesburg where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 with Rev.
