

Elizabeth Schmidt, 93 who was born on November 9, 1924 near Hamburg, Germany died at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Braun’s Personal Care Home in Waynesburg. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Katherin Janietz. She married Gerhard R. Schmidt who lived from 1925 to 1983 and they had 4 children. Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1952, the couple had a son, Werner P. Schmidt who lived from 1950 to 2012.
While in Germany she worked as an administrative secretary in a factory for 11 years. Having traveled to the United States by boat with all their possessions, the Schmidt family settled in New Hampshire, where 3 daughters were born; Evelyn (Doug) Bricker of Pittsburgh, Ingrid (Farley) Toothman of Waynesburg, and Linda (John) Duret of Crownsville, MD.
Mrs. Schmidt and her family moved to Pittsburgh where she ran a “strict German household.” After her children were grown, she worked for several businesses including Ken Park Restaurant, Thrift Drug, and Helpline. She moved to Waynesburg in 2011.
She was proud of her 4 children, her needlework, and that she had mastered a second language.
Mrs. Schmidt was a spiritual woman and had a few church affiliations. She attended the knitting prayer circle at the First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg and the Waynesburg Senior Citizen Center.
In addition to her 3 daughters she is survived by a daughter-in-law Tina Schmidt of Pittsburgh and 11 grandchildren: Bethany Craig, Kristin Finney, Liz Bricker, Autumn Bricker, Damon Bricker, George Toothman, Henry Toothman, Mary Jo (Jordan) Endahl, Katherine Toothman, Elena Lachewitz, and Viktor Lachewitz. Her remaining family is in Germany. She was the last of her immediate family.
