He was born April 7, 1955 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Wylie David Bateson Sr., and Margaret Rebecca Kerr Bateson.
He was a 1973 graduate of West Greene High School. He earned a bachelors’ degree from Grace Brethren College in Indiana.
From 1986 to 1995 Stanley owned and operated Rungo’s Market in Washington. He had recently worked as the produce manager for Save-A-Lot in Washington.
Stanley had a love for catering and preparing food. He catered many private parties. He catered public events at the Washington County Courthouse and also for Art in the Garden at the LeMoyne House.
He was an integral part of the church family at East Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Claysville, where he was the pianist.
He performed gospel music as a member of The Messengers. Stanley was an accomplished pianist. His music touched many lives.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Bateson: and a son Andrew Bateson both of Washington granddaughter, Kaprice Johnson; a brother, W. David (Georgia) Bateson of Elkhart, IN; three sisters, Margaret (Glenn) Zollars of Jefferson; Lynette (Walt) Richards of Jefferson; and Denise (Harry ”Buddy”) Hawk of Rices Landing; and several nieces and nephews; also surviving are his friend and caregiver, Jane Kancel; and close friend, Mary Colombo.
Deceased are two brothers, Kermit Bateson and Phillip “Sonny” Bateson; and two sisters, Joetta Reed and AnnaBelle Haines.
