She was born on April 10, 1938 in West Finley, PA to Lee and Opal Teagarden. She married George W. Powell, Jr. on December 23, 1957; he preceded her in death on July 2, 2017. They operated their family dairy farm for 50 years, and were foster parents to 250 children over 25 years. Letha loved flowers and animals and she loved to bake and garden.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Walls (Doug) of Waynesburg; son, Richard Powell (Misty) of Spraggs; four grandsons, Grant Curfman (Haleigh), Garrett Curfman, Brandon Powell, and Duston Powell; step-granddaughter, Alyssa Walls (Justin Horowitz); four great-granddaughters, McKinley and Adeline Saige Curfman, and Aurora and Luna Horowitz; two sisters, Margie Shaffer and Ellen Shaffer; and brother, Earle Teagarden.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Shaffer.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Behm Funeral Home, 182 W High St, Waynesburg, PA 15370, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Letha will be laid to rest in Claughton Chapel Cemetery.
