Orville "Dick" Herrod

He was born on October 11, 1934 in Washington Township, Greene County, a son of the late Porter and Marie Miller Herrod.

A loving and dedicated Husband of 53 years, he married Mary Louise Lantz on May 22, 1961.

Receiving the National Defense Service Medal for his service in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956, he also served in the Army, stationed in Germany, from 1958 to 1961.

Mr. Herrod retired from the Middlesex County Department of Civil Engineers in New Brunswick, NJ in June of 2001.

He was always a man that would lend a helping hand to family, friends and even to a stranger. He had a passion for haggling and finding great deals at flea markets, auctions and yard sales. He will always be remembered as a man who enjoyed life and offered much laughter to everyone.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son Orville George Herrod Jr. (Beth) of Florence, KY; his two daughters, Donna Leasure Buchanan (John) of Waynesburg and Rose Marie Herrod of South River, New Jersey; 8 grandchildren, Wesley and Zachary Herrod, Candice, Angela, Joshua, and Benjamin Buchanan, Chanel Torres and Ezabela Barreto, ; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Buchanan and Katherine Jamison ; 3 sisters, Ruth Wade of Waynesburg, Anna Harmon of the state of Washington, and Leona Lemon of Rices Landing; and one brother, Paul Herrod of Burgettstown.

In addition to his parents, deceased are 4 brothers, Jack Herrod, Melvin Herrod, Ed Herrod and Porter Herrod Jr.

A memorial service will be held from 4pm until 5pm on Thursday, February 19, at First Assembly of God, where he worshiped, 4131 West Roy Furman Highway, Waynesburg.
