

She was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1931, south of Waynesburg on Smith Creek Rd., Franklin Township. Virginia grew up in Waynesburg, then raised her family in Plum Borough before returning to Waynesburg with her husband Ed, where they spent twenty happy years together in retirement.
Virginia was the daughter of R. Edgar Kiger and Kathryn Kent Kiger of Waynesburg (both deceased).
She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Kiger of Houston PA, and sister Lavonna Kiger Irwin, of Washington, as well as an infant brother who died shortly after his birth.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, William E. Roth Jr., whom she married in 1958. She is also survived by son W. Edward Roth, 56, of Waynesburg; daughter Elissa Roth Gooden, 52, wife of Thomas R. (Randy) Gooden of Waynesburg; and a sister, Audrey Kiger Comport, wife of John Comport, of Waynesburg and Laguna Hills, California; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Virginia graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1948. She attended Waynesburg College, and graduated from Canonsburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She loved the medical field, and worked as a Registered Nurse, first at Greene County Memorial Hospital, then in the neo-natal unit at St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon. After taking time to raise her children to adulthood, she returned to nursing at Eye and Ear Hospital in Pittsburgh, then returned to Greene County Memorial, where she worked until retirement.
She was affiliated with Spraggs Methodist church and was a member of Monroeville Methodist Church.
Virginia loved books, traveling, genealogical study, and her cats. She took many hungry, frightened stray kitties and gave them a safe and happy home. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching “Jeopardy”. She was a very avid reader, and was proud of having instilled her love of books and reading into her two children.
Funeral services will be private, and interment will be at Greene County Memorial Park. A remembrance celebration for her extended family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Virginia’s name to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg.
