Betty Jo (Massie) Arrington

Betty Jo (Massie) Arrington, 93, of Waynesville, passed away on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at her residence.

Born December 16, 1930 in Haywood County, she was the daughter of Jonas Bogue and Annie Wilson Massie. She was preceded in death by sisters Frances Gunter and Nettie Rogers.

Betty was married for 61 years to Larry Cecil Arrington, who died in 2008. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Sunday School teacher, and homemaker who loved her family very much and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her family, Betty dearly loved her church family at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member for more than 70 years.

Betty is survived by her children – Brenda Sutton (husband Mike) of Waynesville, David Arrington of Wake Forest, NC, Benny Arrington (wife Jane) of Waynesville, and Jerry Arrington (wife Nelda) of Arden, NC, as well as seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was especially close to her friends Sylvia Wright, who died in 2017, and Kate Thurber.

A graveside service will be held at 2p.m. on Sunday August 18, 2024 at Saunook Plott Cemetery with Reverend Brandon Mendez officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church – 2362 Old Balsam Rd, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Four Seasons Hospice – 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
