Frankie Joyce Tant Watterson

Frankie Joyce Tant Watterson died January 17, 2022 at her son's home in Midlothian, Virginia after an extended illness. She was 89. She was preceded in death by her parents William Franklin Tant and Mary James Tant of Talladega, Alabama, infant sister, Cherry Maie Tant of Talladega, Alabama, sister Dorothy Tant Hammett of Pell City, Alabama and husband Dr. W. Michael Watterson of Waynesville, North Carolina. She is survived by her sister, Myra Glee Tant Richardson of Maggie Valley, North Carolina and three children, Dr. Michael Watterson of Greenville, North Carolina, Dr. W. Kevin Watterson of Midlothian, Virginia and Mrs. Angela Watterson Elmore of Burnet, Texas, along with 10 grandchildren.

Ms. Watterson was born on April 23, 1932 in Talladega, Alabama. She graduated nursing school from University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham in 1952. From there she spent most of her early career at Grady Hospital in Atlanta where she met her husband, Dr. Michael Watterson. She, along with her family moved to Waynesville in 1969 where she lived until her health declined in 2021.

Frankie was a member of Clyde Wesleyan Church and recently attended Life Church.

The family will receive friends at Life Church on Saturday, January 29th at noon with a service to follow at 1 pm. Pastor Paul Hensley will be officiating the service. Garrett Funeral Services is handling the arrangements.
