

Guy Avery Poteat “Korean War Veteran” Guy Avery Poteat, 84, of Clyde, NC passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. He was born in Haywood County on April 30, 1932 to the late Quince Virgil and Lillie Harris Poteat. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from American Enka following 42 years of service. He enjoyed umpiring baseball games and was an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Left to cherish his memory is his two sons, V. Allen (Dianne) Poteat and David Poteat; daughter, Janet Poteat; three granddaughters, Amber (Billy) Benhart, Brooke (Daniel) Atwood, Beth Poteat and her husband Tyler Kittle; grandson, Matt Poteat; three great grandchildren, Kora Benhart, Boone Atwood, and Luther Poteat; and brother, Frank Poteat. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Bill Terrell officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 12 to 2 PM at the funeral home. Military honors will follow service at the funeral home.
