

Waynesville-John Henry Rogers, 97 went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at his residence. John was born in Pickens, SC on June 21, 1922, to the late Alex and Rebecca Cook Rogers. He loved Blue Grass Music, farming, and watching things grow. John was a faithful member of Green Valley Baptist Church. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific on the USS Massachusetts. He also retired from Dayco and was a CNA at Richland Rest Home. John will be remembered for providing for and loving his family unconditionally.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Smith Rogers; his daughter, Cathy Rogers Harrell; brothers, Oscar, Foch, George, Lee, Edrew, Virgil, and Valor; sisters, Minnie Rogers, Ethel Hendrix, Marie Hipps, Ruby Franklin, and Olean Palmer.
John is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ruby Franklin Rogers; son, Jimmy L. Rogers (Rhetta); daughters, Linda Rogers Smathers and Mary Jane Moody Hughes; granddaughters, Tammy Rogers, Dawn Rogers-Lynn, Summer Rogers, Cindy Conner (Tommy), Kim Black (Jason), Lee Anna Mull (Shannon) and several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverends Todd Cole and Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors. Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. There will be a meal provided in the fellowship hall at Green Valley Baptist Church following the burial.
