

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of beloved son, grandson and brother, Leland Burns, who departed this life on January 9, 2026, in Haywood County, North Carolina, at the age of 25. Born on February 16, 2000, as a quadruplet in Mobile Alabama Leland’s journey led him to Orlando, Florida in 2002, and then to Haywood County in May of 2024, to be closer to their extended family here in the mountains.
Leland was a proud graduate of United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida, a charter school of Orange County, Florida. Upon moving to Haywood County in 2024, Leland became a cherished member of First Baptist Church, Waynesville, North Carolina. Though Leland faced severe disabilities including blindness, his bright and contagious spirit radiated joy to everyone he met. His resilience and courage in the face of adversity were nothing short of inspiring, and his presence will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Leland is survived by his loving parents, Dan and Beth Burns of Waynesville, North Carolina; his sister, Alana Burns of Waynesville; his brother, Jack Burns also of Waynesville; his aunt, Laura Wyant of Altamonte Springs, Florida; and his paternal grandfather, Ronald Burns of West Union, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother Sean Burns; maternal grandparents Howard and Lois Mitcheltree; and paternal grandmother Nancy Burns.
A service celebrating Leland's life will be held on January 17, 2026, at First Baptist Church, Waynesville, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. All who knew and loved Leland are invited to attend and honor his remarkable life and legacy.
Leland will be laid to rest with many members of his family in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
