Canton-Robert Thomas “Tommy” Garrett, Jr. 39, passed away on February 2, 2020, at Mission Hospital. Tommy was born in Miami, FL on January 23, 1981, to the late Robert Thomas Garrett, Sr. and to Joy Hamm Garrett. Tommy enjoyed life, family, and friends and adored his daughter, Lennox. Tommy picked up drumsticks when he was 6 years old and continued his passion for music, playing with several groups in the Asheville area. He touched the lives of everyone he met in a special way. Tommy will be remembered as a compassionate, gentle man.
In addition to his father, Tommy was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joe “Poppy” Longwith.
In addition to his mother and daughter, Tommy is survived by his maternal grandmother, Myrtice “Grandma” Longwith; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 8, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Rev. Dr. Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
