Talka Florence Harber Carlisle died peacefully, surrounded by love and beauty, on January 20, 2025. She was 90 years old and had already seen much of her beloved family and many of her dear friends pass from this earth. She is survived by her loving daughters Sherri Carlisle Clemons, husband Ewing Clemons, and Deanne Carlisle Johnson, husband Stephen Johnson, along with her sister, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born in Abilene, Texas, Talka moved to Austin after graduating High School, and starting her career as a legal secretary. She and her daughters loved the beauty of the Hill Country and the lakes around Austin. She remained in Austin until her recent move to Asheville, North Carolina.
Talka lived up to her very unique name as she was definitely one of a kind. She had a compassionate and generous heart, a quick and brilliant mind, a steadfast devotion to God, and a quirky sense of humor. She was a faithful, loving, and devoted friend, a long-time member of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church in Austin, a Stephen Minister, and a prayer warrior.
You always knew Talka was happy to see you. Even in the last few days of her life when she saw someone she knew she threw her arms in the air, smiled with her whole being, and called out their name if she remembered it, and “Angel” or “Darling” if she didn’t.
She never hesitated to tell the origin story of her name. It was her Mother's name, a Mother she knew only through stories due to her tragic and untimely death. If there are gatherings of spirits in the Heavenly realm, it is the reunion of Talka’s Mom, Dad, sister and brother that we most wish for her to have.
No celebration of life service will be held at Talka’s request.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, spend a moment thinking of Talka, then look for and share something beautiful in the world around you.
