Wanda Barker Mills

Clyde-Wanda Barker Mills, 67, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Wanda was born in Haywood County on July 4, 1949, to the late James Garland and Emma Mae Queen Barker and was the youngest of eleven children. Wanda, who co-started NC Sunset Builders and Millbrook Log Homes, Inc., was a business entrepreneur who graduated from Carnegie School of Business. Wanda was also an avid reader who loved the outdoors, working in her flower garden, bird watching, camping, and traveling to New England with the love of her life, the late John Schreiber, Sr. Most of all she loved God and his son Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Earl, Arlin, and Ganon Barker; her sisters, Gladys Barker, twins, Jeanette and Geneva Barker, and Ferbia Barker Bryant. Wanda is survived by her son Jodey Paul Mills; a daughter, Emma “Tina” Christina Mills; her brother Frelo Barker and his wife Emma; her sister, Willa Mae Rathbone and her husband James; her sisters-in-law, Lillian Barker and Lana Barker; her grandson, Cody Dylan Jones and his fiancée Tabitha Kemper; her great-grandchildren, Kylee Elayna and Liam Avery Jones; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends. Wanda was referred to as Nonny and Aunt Wanda. A memorial service celebrating Wanda’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 26, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Billy Ferguson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
