Best friend, soulmate, and treasured wife of Jerry Sexton for 57 years. Beloved mother of Timothy (Summer) Sexton, Eileen (Chris) Pickel, and Mark Sexton; spirited Tita to her grandchildren, Clare, Tim, and Sarah Pickel and Jeronimo, Martina, Eliseo, Annie, and Maggie Sexton; dear sister of Michael Smith S.J, and Jack Smith; devoted daughter of the late Marie Clark Smith; our dear sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, and friend to many.
Maryann led every organization she ever joined. When president of Catholic Women's League at Holy Redeemer Church, she initiated the progressive dinner fundraiser which has been successful for 32 years. She organized the committee to elect the first woman on the Webster Groves City Council in the 1970's. For several years she was the office manager of Broadcast Information Services in Webster Groves, a public relations service that provided video clips and recorded tapes of TV and radio stories for corporations in the news. She was president for many years of the St. Louis Chapter of OWL, a national organization that advocated for issues affecting older women, such as healthcare, divorce support, and spousal benefit entitlements. In recent years, she was elected to the board of Villas at Kenrick Condominiums, serving two terms as president.
She loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad. She and her husband visited England, Italy, Spain, Greece, China, Brazil, Austria, and spent memorable weeks exploring Paris from one end to the other.
She was always upbeat and fun to be with. She made friends easily and never had an enemy. Her vigorous spirit was infectious and inspiring. She was the warm and loving center of our family, who will miss her terribly.
The Sexton family is grateful to BJC Hospice Team, Dr. Govindan’s team at Siteman Center, and Senior Helpers.
