With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Marcantel who passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025 at the age of 88. He was born to Joseph and Mary Lintzen Marcantel on August 18, 1937.
Mike grew up in Welsh helping and working in the family business Marcantel's Feed Store Welsh and Jennings along with his brothers, Biney and Paul, a business that operated for 63 years.
Mike never met a stranger and was a great person. He belonged to the Retreads Motorcycle club. He enjoyed his motorcycle making several trips including Alaska and California. He also enjoyed boating which he was a member of the Lake Arthur Boat Club.
He was a member of Rev MSGR Jules O. Daigle Council 2855 and he was a 4th Degree Knight.
After retirement he purchased a red GEO battery operating car and rode around Welsh everyday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jocelyn, Bernice, and Mary, brothers, Biney and Paul, and niece Wanette Marcantel Martin.
He leaves behind a niece, Valerie (Thomas) Mier; great nieces and nephews, Matthew Martin, Justin Martin (Jennifer), Cecilia Guidry (Troy), Melanie Mier Lannoo (Logan); great-grand-nieces and nephews, Chloe, Thomas, Amelie, Elijah, and Marie; sister-in-law, Betty Marcantel.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh. A Rosary will be prayed by the Knights of Columbus beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Rev. Prabhakar Kowtiki officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery.
