He grew up in Detroit until the family moved to the Weslaco, Edcouch Elsa area in 1938. After finishing school, Ed got married and had six children. He went to work on the family farm and became a lifetime farmer. Ed was an active member of the South Texas Trail Riders and loved to make his famous beans for the riders.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Woody & Mary Emma Garrett, sibling, Mable Tatum, and his son, Bradley Garrett.
He is survived by his wife, Adelina Garcia Garrett, his sister, Lowery Dyer children, Beverly Bacak (Ed) of Corpus Christi, Barry Garrett (Cindy) of Edcouch, Russell “Rusty” Garrett of Corpus Christi, Richard “Sammy” Garrett Sr (Janene) of Weslaco, and Roger Garrett of Mathis, and Javier Garcia (Nanfon) of Florida; grandchildren, Amanda Sanchez (David), Andrea McGowan (Matt), Cullin Bacak (Lauren), Patrick Garrett (Caitlin), Levi Garrett (Sunni), Jodi Gatewood (Jamie), Justin Garrett (Sara), Jamie Dalasio (Mark), Pamela Garrett, Richard Garrett (Kally), Alexis Murphy (Matt), Sean Garrett (Heather), Mark Garrett (Jill), and Holly Chapman, great-grandchildren, Dustin and Lexi Sanchez, Sloan and Riley McGowan, Brooks and Baker Bacak, Brighton and Brindle Garrett, Willowrose, Radley, and Palmer Garrett, Kyle, Price, and JT Garrett, Brennan and Cecilia Delasio, Sebastian, Waylon, and Wyatt Garrett, Lilly Ann, Ellannore, and Bellemmy Murphey, Bailey and Corbin Chapman, Grace and Luke Garrett, Trystan, Damion, and Amber Garrett, and great-great grandchildren, Nova Skye and Atlas Everest Garrett, numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 7th at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 600 So. Kansas Avenue., Weslaco, Texas.
