Obituary Gilberto Reyna was a native from Matehuala, San Luis Potosí, México. Because of his childhood hardship, Gilberto left to the States to provide a better life for his family. He was a hardworking, migrant farm laborer among other jobs that took him from California, Montana, Michigan and Texas.
Gilberto was a devout Catholic and family man. He taught his 11 children his hard work ethic, responsibility and doing things by the book. He was always prepared for everything, organized and made sure everyone had what was needed. He was strict, and made sure his kids were punctually at school every day. He advocated for academic fairness for migrants in school. He always loved a good debate in which he had the last word. He enjoyed family gatherings, cook outs and watching his beloved baseball, as he was a baseball player in a semi-professional league in Mexico.
Most importantly, his generosity, wisdom, guidance, protective spirit and heart of gold will be missed. His children are at Peace knowing that he is rejoicing in Heaven with his Mother, Manuela Cardenas, his wife Rafaela and his loved ones who have preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Rogelio (Oralia), Carlos (Rosie), Gilberto Jr. (Perla), Rafael (Alicia), Jesus, Francisco (Anavelia), Alma (Josh) Phelps, Yolanda (Scott) Whelan and Luz (Bryan) Prukop. He has now reunited with his loving wife, Rafaela Reyna. Children who preceded him in death are: Flavio, Jose Felix, and Maria De Lourdes (Alvin) Dunn.
Family will receive friends Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 3 pm to 10 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco.
