Jose was born on July 21, 1948, in Mercedes, Texas, to Benita Vela and Juan Antonio Latigo. From the moment you met him, Jose’s warm spirit and playful sense of humor were impossible to miss. He was a fun-loving man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Helping others wasn’t just something he did—it was who he was.
Jose loved life’s simple joys. He enjoyed golfing, sharing jokes, and spending time laughing with those around him. His ability to make people smile and feel welcome was one of his greatest gifts. Above all, Jose cherished his family deeply. His love extended to everyone he considered family, including his step-grandchildren, whom he loved as his own.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria Irene Reyes-Latigo; his children Jose (Gloria) Latigo, Sylvia (Armando) Gonzalez, Juan (Clarissa) Latigo, Julio (Patricia) Latigo, and Debra (Alfredo) Perez; and his step-children Cassandra Flores and Rudy Flores.
Jose is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Benito (Rosa) Latigo, Juan (Mary) Latigo, Mary Latigo, Emma (Joe) Martinez, Alma Cazares, and Juanita Latigo, along with numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Benita Latigo; his sister Rosalinda Anderson; and his brother Gerardo Latigo Vela.
Jose Latigo Vela will be remembered for his generous heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of kindness, joy, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
