In his younger years, Jose shared a special bond with music. He played the accordion and guitar alongside his dear friend Ernesto Aldaco in their family’s band. Music was not just a pastime for Jose—it was a lifelong joy. Through the years, he and Ernie continued to gather, playing together whenever they could, keeping both their friendship and their music alive.
In the later years of his life, Jose’s music became an expression of his faith. He wrote and sang many songs about Jesus, pouring his heart into melodies filled with hope, forgiveness, and redemption. He firmly believed in the saving grace of Jesus Christ and lived that belief daily through prayer, kindness, and compassion.
Jose was a deeply generous man who cared for anyone in need. His compassion was shown not just in words, but in action. Alongside his friend Roberto Cavazos, Jose provided Christian music, food, prayer, and service to others, always seeking to uplift those who were struggling. He gave freely of himself, expecting nothing in return.
A man of unwavering faith, Jose believed strongly in forgiveness and redemption through Jesus. His prayers were powerful, sincere, and constant, and they will be profoundly missed by everyone who was blessed to receive them.
In addition to his love for music and faith, Jose had a deep passion for automobiles. He loved Cadillacs and took great pride in refurbishing a navy blue and gold Cadillac, which became one of his cherished projects. Cadillacs were always his car of choice, and his creativity and mechanical skill extended into building low riders, including a Dodge low rider that reflected his craftsmanship and eye for detail.
Jose was a talented mechanic and a hard-working entrepreneur. Over the years, he owned and operated an auto detailing shop, a limousine service, and even a roasted corn stand. No matter the venture, Jose approached his work with dedication, honesty, and pride. His hands were rarely still, and his work was another way he provided for others and expressed his generosity.
Jose is survived by his four beautiful daughters: Norma Ruiz (Mark Ruiz) of Lansing, Michigan; Linda Kaercher of Lansing, Michigan; Raquel Rosales of Lansing, Michigan; and Shawnee Cardinal-Rosales of Port Charlotte, Florida. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Markeith Venegas, KeyShawn Summerville, Kyrie Summerville, and Cristina Ruiz, who were a great source of pride and joy in his life.
He is also survived by his loving siblings: Guadalupe Rosales (Yolanda) of Lansing; Juanita Gomez (Jesus Jr.) of Mercedes; Luis Rosales (Anita) of Donna; Juan Rosales (Carmen) of McAllen; Emilio Zapata Jr. of Mexico; Ester Ramirez of Mexico; and Silvia Zapata of Mexico; as well as his brother-in-law, Porfirio Gomez of Mercedes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucio Rosales and Evelia Arias Rosales Zapata and his sister Rita Gomez.
