Ramona F. Mena Hernandez left us to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 5th, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Juan Hernandez Sr.; children, Juan Hernandez II (Brenda) and Jose A. Hernandez (Stephanie) and granddaughter Aliyah Garcia.
Ramona was born in Progreso, Texas on May 31, 1947. She grew up a migrant worker alongside her parents Antonio and Consuelo Mena, and 13 siblings. From a young age, she always wanted to help people. This led her to pursue a career in the nursing field. She began as a hospital nurse but soon found her passion caring for the elderly as a licensed vocational nurse here in the Rio Grande Valley.
When she wasn't working, Ramona dedicated her life to her family. She was a wonderful wife and amazing mother. No task was too great when it came to her sons. As they grew up, she used her creativity to make fantastic Halloween costumes, custom camouflage jackets and delicious movie night meals for her family to enjoy.
Making other people happy was so important to her. It was this trait that not only made her a great wife and mother, but also one of the best daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmother's and friends one could have. From having sleepovers with her granddaughter Aliyah (Her Precious), to taking family members out to eat, or just cooking an amazing meal for company, Ramona found so much joy in doing for others.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to her, but her family finds comfort in the fact that she will now fulfill her greatest passion of all by serving our Lord for eternity.
A visitation for Ramona will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 9:30 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Highland, 6705 N. FM 88, Weslaco, TX 78599. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 210 Watts Ave, Progreso, TX, followed by the interment at 11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, TX 78599.
