

Mamang, Tia Puring, and Manang Puring, as we fondly called her, was born as Florentina Bartolaso Militar, in Pasig, Rizal Philippines on May 20,1926. She was the daughter of the late Miguel Bartolaso and Tomasa Cabading. Mamang studied at Rizal High School in Pasig, Rizal Philippines. She graduated with a degree in B.S Education and became a teacher.
On April 19, 1950, Mamang Florentina married my father, Cesar Militar. They had 6 children over the next 13 years – Carmelita, myself, Cesar Jr., Rodolfo, Roland(predeceased), and Joseph. They also adopted a niece, Edna Bartolaso, as their own daughter. All 4 of her siblings are currently living in the Philippines. Danny and family who lives in Connecticut.
In 1993, Mamang Puring migrated to California from the Philippines after she was petitioned by my Papang Cesar. She then acquired her U.S. Citizenship after a few years. My parents enjoyed their retirement years in their home in La Puente together with their senior friends in West Covina. Papang went home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2009, West Covina, CA. In fact, we also held our funeral services for him in this same chapel as most of you may remember.
While she lived in La Puente, Mamang remained under the loving care of Manang Bernedita “Diday” Francisco and her daughters Connie and Heidi, along with Heidi’s husband Rommel and their son Hommel and nephew Edward.
Mamang Puring is survived by her six children Carmelita Militar in Pasig, Philippines, yours truly and my wife Cynthia of Vernon, Connecticut, Cesar Militar Jr., and his wife Bennette of Pasig, Rodolfo Militar and his wife Lenny of Pasig, and Joseph Militar and his wife Lynn of Pasig; her nine grandchildren – my son Daniel and daughter Samantha in Connecticut, and my nephews and nieces in the Philippines namely Jeremiah, Jennilyn, Jennifer, Jara, Ica, Joshua and Hector.
Also her predeceased child Roland Militar and grand daughter Jasmine Militar (June's daughter).
Mamang’s final wish was to be cremated and her ashes to be flown to the Philippines. Her cremation will take place
May 6, 2011. Mamang’s final resting place will be at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Malinao, Pasig City, Philippines..
