Betty R. Wahrer, 95, of Urbandale passed away peacefully on January 29, 2019, at home. She was born on December 3, 1923, in Lu Verne, Iowa to her parents Otto and May Ramus, the 7th of 9 children. She was married to T. Joseph Wahrer Jr. in 1951 and had two daughters, Karen and Elaine. Her family was the most important thing to Betty. She also loved traveling, gardening, and reading books. She was a passionate sports fan, cheering on the teams of Iowa especially the Iowa State Cyclones.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Karen and John Long and Elaine and Brian Gifford, grandchildren Brian Long (Kelly), Janelle Brucker, Audrey Gifford, and Kelly Gifford and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Emma, and Mason. She has two surviving sisters, Norma Marshall, and Janice Schulz. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe, parents and six siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation for Betty at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 2nd at McLaren’s Chapel (801 19th St, West Des Moines) followed by a service at 11:00. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th St, Urbandale, IA 50322 to purchase large print books.
