

Clara Mae Campbell, 91, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Clara Mae was born July 1, 1926 in Valley Junction, IA to Anders Gunnar and Iona Mae (Krieder) Johnson. She graduated from Valley High School in 1943. Clara Mae married Lloyd Gene Campbell on December 18, 1944 in Lansing, MI, and together they lived in Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, Toronto Canada, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Florida. She was a typesetter at North Shore Weeklies Newspapers in Ipswich, MA. Clara Mae was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Clara Mae played the flute, piccolo and piano but especially loved the flute and piccolo and taught many students over the years. She played in the Valley High School Marching Band and Orchestra. Clara Mae was a national champion flutist and was ranked #1 in the country. She was also first chair flutist in the Grand Rapids Orchestra in Michigan. Clara Mae also loved history and reading.
Clara Mae is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Jean Campbell of West Des Moines; son-in-law, Christopher W. Marden of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Margaret June Campbell of Ankeny; nieces and nephews, Timmie Steele, Debra (Donald) Schenck and their children, Timothy and Eric, Lorrie Campbell (Vince Rubino) and her child, Charlee, Steve Campbell and children, Chloe and Cassidy, Gary (Cindy Lou) Campbell and their children, Stacey and Chad, Scott (Suzanne) Campbell and their children, Nathan and Enoch, Brian Campbell and his child, Blake; and many extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gene Campbell; sister, Ethel Jane Johnson; and daughter, Marcia Mae Marden.
