David Lee Fruehling, 65, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at his home in Denver, Colorado. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.
David was born February 21, 1951 in Libertyville, Iowa to Max and Shirley (Chance) Fruehling. He moved with his family to Fairfield, Iowa in 1959 and spent most of his childhood there. In 1966, David’s family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1967, he successfully competed at the district level of Bible quizzing for the Nazarene Church. David graduated from Hoover High School in 1969 with national academic honors.
David entered the U.S. Navy in 1975. He was trained in microwave communications listening to all forms of communication ‘via the air’ to discern patterns of activity, enemy and otherwise. He was stationed in Florence, Italy while performing his duties. David was discharged with honors as a Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1979.
David graduated from a Kansas City area technical school teaching computer programming in 1981. He worked in the Kansas City area for a few years. He later moved to Denver and worked for the Discover Card credit card corporation helping to launch their national computer processing division in the 1980’s. David lived in the Denver area until his death.
David is survived by his mother, Shirley; sister, Sandra; and brother, Mark. He was preceded in death by his father, Max.
