David Jon Tierney was born on July 2, 1955, in Perry, Iowa, to Leonard “Red” and Ethel Tierney. He grew up in Denison, Iowa, where he graduated from Denison High School and formed lifelong friendships.
On November 6, 1982, David married his best friend and the love of his life, Cami (McCoy) Tierney. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family. David was a devoted father to his three children: Chad Tierney (Ashley), Nicole Tierney, and Ryan Tierney. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Mallorie, Hannah, Abigail, and Caeley, and a cherished great-grandfather to Reina and Kairean.
David earned his Associate’s Degree from DMACC and spent his career working in the banking and insurance industry, retiring to enjoy a relaxed life.
Wild at heart, David loved riding his motorcycle when he was younger and wasn’t afraid to admit he got into his fair share of trouble along the way—stories his family will always treasure. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, especially family traditions, and loved playing Euchre at the annual Tierney Christmas party.
A passionate sports fan, David was a devoted supporter of the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Some of his favorite memories were made on trips with his children to watch the Packers, the Chiefs, the Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs—time spent together that meant more to him than the games themselves.
Above all else, David loved his family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his slowness to anger, his loving heart, and the joy he brought into every room.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ethel Tierney; his brother, Steven Tierney; and his sister, JeanAnne Schroeder. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His legacy lives on through the family he adored and the many lives he touched.
