Deborah Sue Von Ahsen

Deborah Sue Von Ahsen (Meulemans), ages 67, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025 at UnityPoint Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Deb was born on December 16, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa to Beverly and Donald Meulemans.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Deb graduated from Hoover High School in 1975. After high school, she was involved in co-ed softball and a bowling league. She was united in marriage to Franklin Russell Davenport Jr. and together they had a daughter, Melissa. Deb later divorced, and married Daniel Lee Sheridan. From this union, Danielle was born. Danny and Deb divorced, and Deb raised the two girls with all the love in her heart.

Deb worked for the Iowa Lottery for 15 years and retired from there in December of 2023. She adored working for the lottery and enjoyed working with her coworkers, some of which you may call friends.

She loved taking mini road trips with her girls down to Missouri (she couldn’t buy lottery tickets in Iowa!) Deb enjoyed trips to the casino with her mom, Beverly. Deb adored the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching the Hawkeye football games, but she was known for getting up and swearing or yelling at the TV. Deb was known as an ornery, yet amazing spirit. She was an avid viewer of the game show network. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with family and friends, yardwork, Valley Junction events, and just being active and with people she loved. Deb was a board member of Christs Living Church in Des Moines. She would give the shirt off her back to help someone else. Deb was a wonderful woman and will be missed by all. She truly was the life of the party.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Virginia Lee “Jennie” Kyle and James Meulemans; her nephew, Jamie Meulemans; and her kitties, Princeton and Troubles. Deborah is survived by her daughters, Melissa (James) Wilson and Danielle (Moises) Sheridan-Llandez; granddaughters, Jayme (Nicholas) Meyer, Megan Wilson, Jennifer Wilson; her great-granddaughter, Amelia Meyer; and her fur baby, Kinnick “Asshole”; and her fur grandbabies, Lily, Salem, Sabrina, and Lola.
