On November 7, 2016, Doris Coppola left our world just 69 days short of her 100th birthday. She was born in Osage, Iowa on January 15, 1917, to William and Ruth Naden. She grew up in Webster City, Iowa and graduated from Webster City High School in 1934, and then attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. Doris was married to Joseph W. Coppola, Sr. on April 1, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents, William and Ruth Naden; and brothers, Gardner, Robert and Charles Naden.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Larry Coppola (Paula), Bobbye McMurray (Mike), Charles Coppola, J.D. (Joy), Frank Coppola J.D. (Genie), and Dr. Joseph Coppola, Jr. (Bobbi). She is further survived by 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Doris was Mom or GG to all of her family. To Doris, "Family is forever" and she also deeply believed that lives should be lived with love. Wherever and whenever her family gathered, she wanted to be there, and she was. She lived with her family every minute until she went to her Lord. Every year Doris would spend and help plan all holidays with her family. Her favorite times were spent at Stone Harbor Island on Lake Burntside near Ely, Minnesota and at Dahl Lake near Luck, Wisconsin with her family. Doris was instrumental in the promotion of higher education for her children and grandchildren. You could not lose her love or respect. Whenever her family came or left, she would say, "I love you twice as much" and all would say it right back. It became a race to see who would say it first.
We want to specially thank Paula, Mike, Joy, Genie and Bobbi for the love and care they gave Mom throughout the years. They also were her children.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel in Wes Des Moines, Iowa with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until service time at McLaren’s.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dowling Catholic High School Scholarship Fund.
