

Dorothy Ann McClusky, 96, passed peacefully with family at her side February 11, 2018. A celebration of her life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dorothy was born April 12, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa to Ray and Dorothy Moran. Dorothy and her husband, L. Miller McClusky, married January 31, 1943. They were life-long members of the Church of Christ Scientists where they attended with their families as children in Clinton and with their children in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Des Moines, Iowa.Dorothy was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a Clive Grade School PTA president; Sunday school teacher; and, past member of PEO, Chapter HT. When her children were grown, her passion became needlepointing. She adored her grandchildren and spent countless hours caring for and loving them.
Those who remain to keep her in their hearts include her daughter, Robin Allen of West Des Moines; son, Mark (Karen) McClusky of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughter, Wendy VanRoekel of Mankato, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and, two great grandchildren. Her parents; sister, Charlotte Moran; brother, Jack Moran; beloved husband, Miller; and daughter, Millanne Albright, precede her in passing.
The family extends much gratitude and love to the staff at Bickford Cottage in West Des Moines for their creation of a warm home environment under the direction of Heidi Fristo and the loving care they gave Dorothy for eight years. A special thank you goes out to Victoria Meeks, who showed humor, laughter, compassion, and above all, love to all the women in the Memory Care unit. Urbandale Health Care Center was her home for the last two and a half years of her life. There she received much love and care from all the staff. She was blessed to have warm and loving caretakers.
