Dorothy Frances (Throckmorton) Riddle

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 beginning at 11:00 am at McLarens Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265. There will be a one hour visitation at the funeral home before the service. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery following the service.

Dorothy was born April 21, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia to Charles and Grace Throckmorton. She graduated from North High School in 1940. After high school, she graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1950. She continued her education at ISU and received her Master’s Degree in Home Economics in 1955. While at Iowa State, Dorothy met the love of her life, Robert O. Riddle. The couple was united in marriage on June 4, 1950 in Story County, Iowa. There were three children to this union, Charles Robert, William Fredrick and Grace Louise. Dorothy was a home economics teacher for the Des Moines Public School System until her retirement in 1980. Then spent her retirement loving life and traveling with Robert.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, sewing crafts, collecting various porcelain figures and older collectables, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her pet cats over the years. She loved to visit with friends at Wesley Acres and to reminisce about stories of her upbringing. She would say cheerfully that she was “staying ornery as ever.” Most of all, Dorothy dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, Charles and his wife, Shirley Riddle of Spokane, Washington, William Frederick Riddle of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Grace Louise Wymer of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Ryan Ross, Matthew and his wife, Shannon Riddle, Christopher and his wife, Ashley Riddle, Jonathon Riddle, Katheryn and husband, Roberto Branch, Lucas and his wife, Jeneava Wymer, Camille and her husband, Amos Campista, Victoria “Gabby” and her husband, Ryan Boettger, Austin and his wife, Tessa Wymer; ten great grandchildren, Rosa, Roberto, Iris, Alrerich, Kaiyana, Shepard, Emmileyne, Anthony, Dante, and Benjamin and two great-great grandchildren, Nikolai and Amaira; a grand-niece, Ann Hobbs of Silver Spring, Maryland and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2012, parents; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hines and Margaret Ann Snow and daughter in law, Lisa Riddle.
