Dorothy I. Weems, 96, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at her home in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Dorothy was born July 4, 1919 in Mahaska County, IA to Ben and Nadja (Fear) Thomas. She was a teacher at St. Theresa’s School in Des Moines and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Dorothy married Lloyd Weems on May 9, 1947 in Des Moines. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed ceramics, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lloyd Weems of Des Moines; sons, Dennis Weems of Des Moines and Richard (Cindy) Weems of Cumming; three grandchildren, Jason Weems of Orilla, Lori Elvrom and Carrie Weems both of Tacoma, WA; four great-grandchildren, Paige, Lydia, Tommy and Cooper; and sisters-in-law, Roberta Greene of Ventura, CA and Rhea Hoskins of Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Neola.
