Elizabeth Conners

Betsy was born on August 18, 1946, in Grinnell, Iowa to Dr. Atwood and Katherine Brock. She grew up in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1964. She was always proud of the fact that in later years, her family home became the site of the Iowa Peace Institute. She went on to attain her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Iowa in 1968.

Betsy enjoyed a 32 year teaching career at the Johnston Community Schools at both Johnston Elementary and Henry A. Wallace Elementary. She touched the lives of hundreds of students and their grateful parents. She was patient, caring and kind in her teaching. She was respected by her colleagues as well. Betsy taught fourth grade and was passionate about her chosen career. She enjoyed running into former students and catching up.

Betsy enjoyed many hobbies including golf, bridge, and reading. Her favorite genre was Mysteries although she could never resist going to the end to peek at “whodunit.” She and Pat cherished the last 14 winters at Tara Golf & Country Club in Bradenton, FL.

Survivors include her husband, Patrick Conners of West Des Moines and his three children and four grandchildren, Brother, Fritz Brock (Jennifer) of Allentown, PA, a Nephew, Niece and their families, and a host of numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Private burial will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be given in Betsy’s name to Johnston Backpack Program or Heinz 57 Pet Rescue.
