Elizabeth June Maley peacefully joined her beloved Walter at the table of the Lord on December 30, 2023. Her funeral mass will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. There will be a visitation immediately preceding the service beginning at 10 AM at the Church. A luncheon at Sacred Heart will follow the funeral Mass. June's burial at Resthaven Cemetery will follow the funeral.
June was born to John and Caroline Theiler in Omaha, NE on June 14, 1934, the third of four children. The family relocated to Des Moines, and June graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and continued her education at Mercy College of Nursing in Des Moines. She began her nursing career as a surgical nurse. Ultimately June's love of children led her to work for a pediatrician at Mercy.
June married the love of her life, Walter Maley, and together they raised six children. She dedicated her life to her children and her support of family. She led her family in prayer and Catholic faith, including her beloved rosary and favorite prayers. June's devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was passed on to many of her family members. She also imparted her love of poetry and could always quote her favorite ones by heart. Born on Flag Day, most of her grandchildren could quote from memory "Hats Off, The Flag is Passing By" thanks to Grandma.
Walter and June were rarely parted in their almost 60 years together. When she lost Walter, she looked forward to the day they would be reunited, and that day of joy has now arrived. June's defining memory should be her love of her family, children, especially grandbabies, and her dedication to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
June is survived by her six children, Peter, Liz (Bill) Brosnahan, Mary (Kenneth) Munro, Jeanne (Grason) Hill, Walter (Joan) Maley, and Patty (Ryan) Parker and 17 beloved grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Dowling Catholic High School or Sacred Heart Church.
