

Elvin E. “Gene” Lamb, 93, passed away December 6, 2022, surrounded by his family at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 14 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday evening at McLaren’s. Burial with military honors will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Gene was born April 1, 1929, one of 12 children born to John and Nora (Ladely) Lamb in Redfield, IA. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1947. Gene was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1948-1952 as an airplane mechanic; served during the Korean War. On October 28, 1955, Gene married LaVerne Robertson and together they raised three daughters. During his lifetime, he worked as a machine operator for Delevan Corporation and Parr Manufacturing. He also worked part-time at Sears where he enjoyed meeting so many people, never met a stranger.
Gene was an avid sports fan, his favorite teams being the New York Rangers, New York Yankees, Des Moines Buccaneers and numerous state teams. Playing card games was one of Gene’s favorite pastimes, especially cribbage and solitaire. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, LaVerne, 4 brothers and 6 sisters. He is survived by his daughters Cindy, Becky, and Sherri Lamb; granddaughter Danielle Lamb; sister Donna Aldrich and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Veterans Hospital, Moments Hospice, Angel’s Care Home Health, and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion, which made such a difference in Gene’s quality of life the past few years.
