Eugene O. Deatsch

Gene died August 6, 2016 from complications of a stroke. He was born in Tiffin, IA, October 29, 1934. After graduation from Martinsdale High School, Gene worked for years as a local truck driver in the Des Moines area. He delivered for Briggs Transportation and Valley Paper throughout the metro area. For a brief period he realized his lifelong dream to own a bar. Geno’s Place was located in Waukee, Iowa, and was a local favorite for the then, small town of Waukee. Gene lived his entire life in Iowa surrounded by family and friends. He possessed an incredible work ethic. The most important things to him were working hard to provide for his immediate family and spending time with his large extended family.

His greatest love in life was his family. Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn, and three children, Linda, Tom (Alynn) and Cheri; his siblings: Ron, Bill, Rosalie, Ivan, John, and Judy, their respective spouses and countless numbers of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jathan, Kesse, Kyrie, Kayren, Lorien, and Aleya, and two great-grandchildren, Corran and Beorn. He was preceded in death by his brothers, “Junior” and Elmer and his parents, Firmin and Martha.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2016, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 - 66th St. in Urbandale, followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Gene lived a long, happy life and will be loved and missed by many. Memorials can be made to the family.
