Eugene C. Scheuermann

Eugene Carroll Scheuermann, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Wesley on Grand. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Gene was born January 10, 1939 to Clarence and Ilene (Albright) Scheuermann. He attended school in Churdan until they moved to Bayard his senior year and met the love of his life and his future wife, Janet. They had two daughters, Stephanie and Justine.

In 1958 he went to work at Sidles Automotive in Des Moines right out of high school and worked there for 11 years. Gene and partners started Hawkeye Auto Supply in 1969 and Hawkeye Paint in 1972. They sold the business and he retired in 1997. Gene was president of the Iowa Automotive Association, member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters and a member of the Hawkeye Booster. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Gene is survived by his daughter Justine (Greg) Tellis of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Cory (Abby) Scheuermann, Wesley and Cassidy Tellis; and sister, Charlene Tingwald. He was preceded by death by his parents; loving wife, Jan; daughter, Stephanie; sister, Shirley; and brother, Dean.

Memorials may be director to the Alzheimer’s Association.
