Everett Dean Jones died Friday, October 20, 2017 at Good Samaritan in Indianola, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
Everett was born February 26, 1924 in Kossuth County, Iowa to Ralph and Myrtle (Dau) Jones. Everett grew up in south Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from October 30, 1942 to February 10, 1946. He started working for the Weather Service in Des Moines after his military service. He married Margaret McIlvenna in 1948. They adopted two children, Tom and Maria. He also served at many other locations for the Weather Service, including American Samoa and Kwajalein Island before retiring in Arizona. After retiring, he went to Saudi Arabia twice to install weather equipment at a new airport. He and Peggy also worked at Glacier Park in the summer for several years. Everett was a care giver to his son, Tom, who was a paraplegic for several years before dying in 1978. He was also a care giver to his wife, Peggy, who had ALS before she died in 1987.
Everett did maintenance work at an apartment complex. He later met and married Eddie Suarez in 1988. Everett enjoyed cooking and baking. His specialty was preparing the turkey and all the trimmings for the holiday meals. They had a motor home and made several trips to the west coast and various other places. Eddie died in 2010.
Everett spent several months with his sister, Hazel in Granite Falls, Washington. He returned to Arizona and later moved to Iowa in December 2013 to live with his brother, Wayne and his wife Jo.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Merriel Matthews.
Everett is survived by his daughter, Maria Molina and her three sons; step-children, Judi Fallon, Conny Jacobs, Daniel Stumbo (Patti) and Martin Suarez (Lisa); five step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren, all from Arizona; sister, Hazel Cartmill of Maryville, Washington; brother, Wayne Jones (Jo) of Norwalk, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
