Janet C. Lockard, 96, passed away July 4, 2013, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines where she had been a resident for 12 years.
Janet was born in Adel, IA, on August 21, 1916, the daughter of Ralph and Marcia Hoffman. After graduating from Adel High School in 1933, she went on to earn a two year Teaching Certificate from Drake University. She taught second graders in Maxwell, IA, for the next two years. Janet married Frederick A. Lockard July 19, 1936. They spent most of their married life in Des Moines, and were blessed with two children. Janet also did clerical work for many years, working for Periodical Publishers, National Handcraft Institute, and Communication Data Services, retiring from CDS in 1984. She was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son Fred C. Lockard (Carol) of Bondurant; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband Fred, daughter Marcia, and brothers John and Julian.
A private family celebration of her life will be at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel with interment at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Janet was a sweet and gentle lady who will be missed by her family.
