Janis L. Mugge

Janis L. Mugge passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born on February 19, 1935, to Harold and Gemeve Jensen. Janis attended the University of Iowa and was a proud member of the Delta Delta Gamma sorority. Following her college years, she married John P. Mugge in 1955, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community.

A devoted Christian, Janis lived her faith through kindness, generosity, and support of charitable causes. She was a dedicated homemaker with a gift for creating a warm and welcoming home and a talent for decorating. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with loved ones, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and had a deep love for animals. She was a longtime member of the Des Moines Golf and Country Club and PEO Chapter HY.

She is survived by her children, Katie (Scott) Cochran, Chris Mugge, and Andrew Mugge; her grandchildren, Erik (Katie) Cochran, Jason (Elizabeth) Cochran, Kristen (Timothy) Gurba, and Kyle (Katherine) Jackson; and her great-grandchildren Lydia, Clara, Cole, Riley, Camille, Parker, and Pilar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Mugge; her parents, Harold and Gemeve Jensen; her daughter, Diane “Betsy” (Mugge) Jackson; her sister, Nancy (Rich) Thompson; and Lester and Nelle Mugge.

Janis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
