Josephine Louise Barton, 87, passed away August 22, 2025 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Jo was born August 21, 1938 in Akron, IA to Robert and Edna (Meier) Hamman. She graduated from North High School in 1956. Jo married Kenneth Barton on June 23, 1957 and together they had three boys. She was a member of the Waukee YMCA and Waukee Women’s Club. Jo enjoyed family gatherings, fishing and boating in northern Minnesota, camping in the Rocky Mountains, watching all sports-especially her Iowa State Cyclones, playing cards, gardening, cooking and reading.
Jo is survived by her three sons, Greg (Laura Fuller) of Coralville, Jeff (LaRisa) of Clive and Scott (Sharry) of Urbandale; four grandchildren, Kelsey (Shannon) Sietmann, Katie Ayala, Trey and Robyn Barton; two great-grandchildren, Reagan Ayala and Bray Loving; and niece, Holly (Josh) Wiedow. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bob Hamman.
