Larry E. Kellow, Sr., age 74 passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a memorial service following at 7 p.m. A private family burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Larry was born on May 22, 1947, to Harold D. Kellow, Sr. and Charleen M. Hagg Kellow. Larry grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Saydel High School. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Army in both the United States and Germany during the Vietnam War. Larry married Sheila Petrie on August 23, 1975, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Larry worked in the auto industry most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cheering for his Green Bay Packers and playing golf. Larry loved watching his grandkids play in their sports activities. Larry was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather (Papa/Pops), and will be missed dearly.
Larry is survived by his wife Sheila; children Larry (Trish) Kellow, Jr., Nicole Button and Lance (Jaime) Kellow; grandchildren Lexi, Kaylee, Carley, Logan, Leigha, Megan, Matt, Aiden, and Theo; brother Mike (Candy) Kellow; and nephews Shane and Jake Kellow. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold D. “Butch” Kellow Jr.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support teams at the Des Moines VA Hospital for their amazing and compassionate care during Larry’s time in the hospital.
Memorials can be made in Larry’s name to any veterans organization of their choice.
