Lawrence Alvin Wieland Sr.

Lawrence Alvin Wieland Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025. Visitation will be Thursday October 23, 2025, where family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral service will be on Friday October 24, 2025, at 1:00pm at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will immediately follow the service at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Lawrence attended Tech High School in Des Moines, IA. After graduating high school, he served in the US Navy Reserve. He married Erna "Kay" Pichon March 28, 1955, at First Methodist Church Downtown Des Moines, IA. Together, they settled in Des Moines and started their family. They stayed in the area and spent most of their lives together on their acreage in Urbandale. Kay and Larry had six children: Connie, Lawrence II, Jeffrey, Gail, Shawna, and Summer.

Known as an extremely hard worker he held multiple jobs at the same time. He ran the LarryDon Horse Stable, he was a Landlord for several rental properties, and he owned and operated a lawn care company called, “Custom Lawn Service.” He did all of this while working full time as a pressman for Bankers Life Insurance Company, The Printers, and Garner publishing totaling over 40yrs.

During retirement he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and fishing. Lawrence was a very patient father, above that was a loving father who was funny, and a little onery. His loyalty towards his wife and family never wavered. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to care for the goats and chickens and gather the eggs. He really enjoyed relaxing in his La-Z-Boy watching reruns of his favorite cowboy shows. Over the past 10 years Dad and Mom found wonderful friends to surround themselves with at the Franklin community center.

His memory lives on through his children Connie (Bill) Heinkel, Larry II (Kathy) Wieland, Jeff (Helene) Wieland, Gail (Tim) Bormann, Shawna Kinnison, and Summer (Ryan) Clark; grandchildren; Billy (Nicole) , Andy, Jason (Crystal) , Leah (Ryan) , Lindsey (Mike), Caleb (Shambala) , Adelle, Frank (Janie) , Emily (Tim), Angela (Tyler), Everett (Nikki), Eleanor, Mariah, Brianna (Nick), Peirce (Candice), Ashley, and Haley; great grandchildren, Brysen, Jacksen, Landon, Aubrey, Lincoln, Isaiah, Justice, Charlotte, Cruz, Jackson, Ava, London, Ivy, Vada, Atticus, Ophelia, Kimberlie, Rebekah, Henry, George, Elouise, Maverick, Cash, Aria and 3 on the way; and his brother, Paul (Paul-e-wog) Wieland.

Lawrence Wieland Sr is preceded by his loving wife Kay of 70 years. Siblings: Marvin Baker, Charles Wieland, Ruth Ellsworth, Margret Wieland, and Francis Wieland Jr.
